LightDrive is a collection of personal online services designed to work together through one account.
Your LightDrive account gives you a private place to store files, use email, maintain calendars and contacts, read supported documents and ebooks, and manage your account and security settings.
LightDrive is built around a philosophy of personal data stewardship. We believe the information you entrust to us remains yours, and that our role is to provide and care for the services that store, protect, and organize it—not to turn information about your life into another source of revenue.
Instead of treating each of these services as unrelated products with separate accounts, LightDrive connects them through your LightDrive ID.
Your LightDrive ID is used throughout the service and also forms your LightDrive email address.
For example, a LightDrive ID of:
alex
corresponds to the email address:
alex@lightdrive.one
The LightDrive Vault
Most LightDrive services are available through the LightDrive Vault.
The Vault is where you can:
- store and organize files;
- upload and download documents;
- access your LightDrive Email;
- use your calendar;
- manage account and security settings;
- review your plan and billing information;
- contact LightDrive Support; and
- access other LightDrive applications available to your account.
The application menu at the top of the screen lets you move among the major parts of LightDrive.
Your Data
LightDrive is designed around personal accounts rather than the shared-workspace model used by many business-oriented cloud services.
Your files, mailbox, calendars, contacts, and other personal account information are associated with your account.
Some LightDrive features allow you to intentionally share information with another person. Sharing is something you choose; it is not the default assumption behind how your personal information is handled.
Use LightDrive From More Than a Web Browser
You can use many LightDrive services through applications you may already use.
For example:
- files can synchronize with desktop and mobile devices;
- LightDrive Email can be used with compatible email programs;
- calendars can synchronize through CalDAV; and
- contacts can synchronize through CardDAV.
This means you can use the LightDrive web interface when convenient while still accessing your information through compatible applications on your computers, phones, and tablets.
One Account, Several Services
Although LightDrive contains several services, you generally do not need to think of them as separate accounts.
Your LightDrive identity connects the services together, and important account changes—such as password changes, plan changes, account restrictions, or cancellation—are coordinated across the LightDrive system.
The chapters that follow explain each part of LightDrive individually and show how to configure compatible devices and applications.
In This Manual
You do not need to read this manual from beginning to end.
If you are new to LightDrive, continue with Chapter 2 — Getting Started.
If you are looking for help with a particular feature, use the Table of Contents to go directly to the appropriate chapter.
For a problem that needs assistance from LightDrive, see Chapter 12 — LightDrive Support.
